I was without prior knowledge chosen to serve as trustee and executor for an estate and trust that included an operating business. I was not involved with the business operation or its financial matters. I received notification from the IRS that claimed several years of full or partial taxes were owed.

Michael and Quinn did an excellent job explaining how they would research the IRS claims and develop an approach for communicating with the IRS, including exploring potential abatements. Ultimately, they were able to achieve a 20% reduction in the amount owed.

Before hiring him, I consulted with several attorneys. From my very first conversation with Michael, I knew he was the right person for my case. My husband and I came to Michael Raff after 3 other accounting firms failed to help us solve a costly error made by the IRS and a previous accountant. The issue had been lingering since 2020 (2019 tax year).

We tried numerous CPA firms and tax accountants. A few claimed they could help ultimately at significant cost to us, many told us to "forget about it". Last fall we decided this was a job for a tax attorney. I read reviews from every possible source trying to find a tax attorney with good reviews. Michael Raff's reviews were 100% great. I was suspicious of that many great reviews. I concluded that there were too many and too varied for the feedback to be fake.

Not only that, he has a transparent and meticulous process for the way he bills and updates clients.

Others before him pledged to keep us informed but only Michael proactively phoned us (and followed up with an e-mail) at the end of every month.

The minimal retainer he asked for in order to work on this problem is still not used up.

Michael was able to retrieve the money from the original error in LESS THAN SIX MONTHS, where other large, expensive firms had failed us for OVER 5 YEARS. He is still planning to retrieve money from the IRS on our behalf for the error adjacent money.

We assumed he was a specialist only and worked as a dedicated tax attorney. Michael also does regualar tax preparation. It did not take much convincing to for us to engage him as our accountant.

If you want an acccountant who is knowledgeable, dedicated, and ethical, I think you would be hard pressed to find someone more skilled than Michael Raff.

Some history: The IRS contacted me by mail in May 2025 advising I failed to take a 2024 RMD from an IRA account that did not exist. I have an IRA that I did take a 2024 RMD that was documented and claimed on the 2024 return. (I used H&R Block Deluxe Tax filing program for my 2024 return which showed a refund of $303 from the IRS)

In August 2025 after another threatening letter from the IRS, I contacted Michael Raff/Tax Attorney who had very good reviews and recommendations from previous clients. He responded immediately and took my case. With documentation provided, he filed an amended return and put my IRS account in suspension pending review of the amended return. The outcome which has now been settled has the IRS agreeing to drop the RMD penalty, and sending a refund on my 2024 amended return of over $2,000. During the months the IRS decision was pending, Michael regularly communicated changes and progress on the case. He was attentive, responsive, and effective in dealing with the IRS on my behalf. I recommend his counsel should you ever have tax issues with the IRS.
